Each year the Oregon Department of Education releases an Annual Notice for Statewide Tests to inform parents about this important topic.

Why the tests are important:
Statewide tests help provide educators and administrators with information about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed.

Testing dates 2021-22:

  • In-Person Testing March 14th, 2022 through April 15th, 2022
  • Virtual Testing April 19th, 2022 through June 3rd, 2022

Which students will be testing:

  • K-12 students identified as EL take the ELPA
  • 3-8, and 11th-grade students take ELA and Math
  • 5th, 8th and 11th-grade students take Science

If  you have questions about whether your student is participating in the state testing this year please reach out to your student/s teacher/s

Once written notification from families is received, EDGE will reach out to schedule in-person testing two weeks prior to testing to assign a date and time. If testing virtually, your student/s teacher will reach out to your student two weeks prior with instructions.

30-day notice for statewide tests 2021-22:

Parents are encouraged to read the 2021-22 Annual Notice for Statewide Tests to learn details and to stay informed.
Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. Schools will provide parents with the 2021-22 form at least 30 days prior to the start of testing.

Please contact the EDGE Office to speak with an administrator to obtain the Parent Request for Exemption from Oregon State Assessments form.

Facts to consider:
Before submitting a form, please consider these facts:

  • State assessments are a measure of student academic achievement related to state academic standards.
  • State testing does not in any way negatively impact students regarding their regular academic achievement and/or work at school.
  • Results from state assessment help teachers at your student(s) school improve their teaching practices.
  • Results are used by school administrators to help teachers adjust instruction to better focus on student academic needs.
  • Students do not “pass” or “fail” these assessments. They are simply a measure of academic achievement at specific grade levels to help inform instructional decision-making.
