In response to the critical need to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community, Salem-Keizer Public Schools will extend the pause to athletics until at least Jan. 4, 2021.
As a reminder, Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced a statewide two-week freeze on activities to help slow the spread of rapidly increasing coronavirus cases, impacting communities across the state. This took effect Nov. 18, 2020.
After additional guidance from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) announced the suspension of all indoor extracurricular activities, while allowing some instances of outdoor activities. However, with the rise of COVID-19 cases in Marion County, the previous decision to suspend all SKPS extracurricular activities will remain and will be extended through winter break. Athletics are tentatively scheduled to resume for SKPS students on Jan. 4, 2021.
District officials will be closely monitoring the COVID-19 metrics to decide if activities will be able to resume on Jan. 4, 2021. A decision about resuming activities and more information will be sent to families in December.
